Radio Reading Services
Help people stay informed with newspapers, books, and other publications through audio reading and dial-in services.
Audio Description Services
Help people experience theater, films, and museum exhibits through spoken descriptions of visual details.
Independent Living Skills Training
Support braille reading and writing, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility instruction for everyday independence.
Three Pillars of Direct Service
The upcoming Sight and Vision Center, alongside our current outreach, focuses on three essential areas of direct service. Your donations before the July 31 deadline will directly fund:
- Orientation and Mobility (O&M): This training empowers blind and visually impaired individuals to safely navigate their homes, cities, or workplaces, while mastering daily household needs.
- Braille Literacy: Dedicated instruction for learning both Braille reading and tactile writing to restore personal independence and communication.
- Assistive Technology: Hands-on training with specialized software, screen readers, and modern digital tools necessary for success in today’s workforce.
Give Your Time: Volunteer Services Needing Support
Beyond financial donations, MWE relies on dedicated volunteers to power two of our most impactful daily connection programs:
- Radio Reading Service: Volunteers read local newspapers and publications on-air, allowing blind members to dial in and hear the latest community updates.
- Audio Description Service: MWE partners with area theaters where volunteers describe live visual action taking place on stage. Blind patrons wear specialized headsets to hear vivid details of what they cannot see, making local theater fully accessible.
